Day 5 with Mom/Gram: Wine Tasting

Monday came with more rain, so I decided to take my mom to the best place ever on a rainy day: Tokara Deli. Sitting on couches sipping homemade chai lattes next to a toasty fire while the kids play with toys and read books was certainly in order, until we drove all the way up Helshoogte Road to find that Tokara Deli is closed on Mondays. Drat! So we headed back to Stellenbosch and met some friends from my Monday morning moms group at Wakaberry. After that we headed over to Vide e Caffe for hot chocolates, so not all was lost.

While Eland napped that afternoon, Mom and Auggie headed out to the local Stellenbosch historical museum and saw houses built as long ago as the early 1600s. And after all that? Wine tasting!

You literally cannot come to Stellenbosch without seeing grapevines lining every open space. The way that corn and soybean fields are to Central Illinois is the way that vineyards and grapevines are to Stellenbosch--we are surrounded! That said, Dan came home from work at 3pm to be our designated driver, and off we all headed to Neethlingshof to taste some amazing estate wines. It was great fun!
