Four times a year Auggie's school has a "Market Day" for the Pre-reception and Reception classes to teach them about money. Each kid has one turn running a stall and selling little things while the rest of the kids get to make purchases. Here are the preparations for Auggie's turn as a seller at Market Day.
I think most kids tend to make baked goods or sweeties for Market Day, so I did my best to come up with something that wasn't food-related. In my search I remembered Emily's
brilliant party gift for Owen's first birthday, melted crayons, and decided to give it a go with the kids. We found silicone trays to use as our molds, bought crayons to melt (which made this a not-so-cheap venture), and had at it.
These photos are actually from February, as I originally signed Auggie up for the first Market Day of the year. Alas, we had to skip it and make a trip to Home Affairs for our [failed] attempt at permanent residence here in SA. I wish we'd gone to Market Day instead. :)

| We grouped colors together in tin cans and glass jars |
| Thanks for your tips, Emily! |
| Of course Eland wanted in on the fun |
| Auggie enjoyed [supervised] crayon chopping |
| We melted the crayons in about an inch of hot water on the stove |
| Believe it or not, I thought the glass jars were a lot easier to work with than the cans |
| The mess was kind of intense and it got everywhere |
| We had bug, heart, and diamond molds, and did our best to layer the colors into rainbows |
| The fridge quickened the hardening process |
| Time for the fun part--popping these babies out! |
| Complete success! |
