Stellenbosch Slow Food Market

We've been meaning to go to the farmers market out here for quite some time, but last weekend Dan surprised us with that trip to the beach and all. ;) This morning we finally found the time, and also found out that it's not really a farmers market. It's more of a venue on a vineyard where well-dressed mostly white* people go to look fancy and be seen. Haha.. Quite a description, I know. In spite of that comment, it was beautiful and truly pleasant, although there were only two produce stands. The rest were filled with crafts, foods and beverages (Dan and I shared a great "slow brew" beer well before noon ;), and fancy clothes. I would really like to find a real farmers market, but we had a great trek across Stellenbosch to get to the slow food market and enjoyed gawking at the fancy people. Hehe..

Buying an açai berry smoothie at Dr. Juice
The Slow Market was very crowded this morning
Mmmm.. smoothie!
Larry Ecker - are you out there? We found your South African bizarro spinning and selling records at Oude Libertas Vineyard. Unfortunately for him, he's not as good-looking as you, boss. :)
One of the two fruit stands, with me in the background contemplating onion prices. I bought the R5 bag just in case you were wondering.
It's been raining off and on today with lovely dark, ominous clouds hovering over the mountains in the background. Apparently this is what winter is like.

The grape leaves are hinting at turning colors soon. I've seen pictures of vineyards covered in the autumn colors of crimson and orange. Can't wait to post photos when I get to see it in real life!

* From my little knowledge of race in South Africa: There are white people--typically Afrikaaners, black people, and colored people--what we call mixed. Please note that the term "colored" is not derogatory in the slightest here.
