Yellowstone wasn't what we were expecting. We were expecting impressive peaks and valleys, and incredible colors. Instead it's green, very forested, and not quite the peaks and valleys thing. However, what is impressive is all of the wildlife and random outdoor oddities.
About 27 miles into the park we saw a bison and got pretty excited. We stopped and took a few photos. Then we drove another mile, rounded another bend, and feasted our eyes on a herd of hundreds of bison speckled across an entire valley. That was impressive.

I don't think I have iPhone photos of the valley. We stopped at a pull-off where you could get out and stand less than a stone's throw from several bison. There was a snorting bull and a closer female chewing on the grass and eyeing some bystanders.
Oddities include the hotsprings and geysers. They geysers smell terrible and smoulder on and on. Totally weird to my city-slicker self.

I still haven't seen my first wild bear yet. I'm ready, but preferably from a distance.
We are now driving over to Mammoth Hot Springs in search of a detailed trail map and cell phone service. No such luck for the latter. Blast.
Auggie has been doing well and is now sleeping in his car seat. He didn't get the excitement of the herd of bison and was more interested in watching people watching the bison.
Thanks to everyone for your comments. I don't have service long enough to read your blogs or catch up on email, but I love reading your comments! Holly, send your baby's name if you've gone public yet, I'm so curious!! :)
Little Man is stirring. Time to sign out.
