My Grandpa

On Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:20am my grandpa passed away. He was 95, lived a long, wonderful life, and left a legacy including four married kids, nine grandkids, and five great-grandkids. I know deaths are generally sad occasions, but this is completely joyous. My grandpa was a great person and I have so many memories to cherish as I remember his life.

A few quick memories include how he used to take me to see the clydesdale horses at Grant's Farm in St. Louis. (These clydesdales are the ones that majestically pull the the Budweiser wagon--they're gorgeous.) I used to ride horses and always loved clydesdales the most. It was so cool that he'd take me over to see them whenever we were visiting. Once, Grandpa let me give him a manicure including clear nail polish, and another time he accompanied me to the Jr. Girl Scouts Octoberfest where we ate bratwursts and felt like real Germans. :)

Thanks, Grandpa, for being completely awesome. And thanks for setting a great example of a person who works hard, loves his family, and loves Jesus. We are celebrating you as you are surely celebrating in heaven.

I did my best to find pictures of my grandpa, and it's driving me nuts that the only ones on my computer are from the last time we saw him--January 2012 before leaving for South Africa. I'm so glad we made the trip, but I wish I could find pictures of when he came to visit after Auggie, his first great-grandchild, was born. Ah well. I'm sure my mom has copies of them. :)
