Glaciers Today, but Tomorrow?

Today we woke up to sunshine and mountains on either side that seem to touch the sky. They're the tallest onces we've seen to date on this trip. We are in Glacier National Park. And I believe today is Saturday, August 1, 2009, but the days are getting harder to keep track of the longer we've been away from home.

Glacier National Park definitely belongs in the favorites list. I keep using words like incredible, spectacular, and stunning to describe other places, and while they are genuine descriptions, Glacier is all that and more. There are more mountain peaks that you can count, the pine trees are dense and tall, the greens are so lush and the snow-covered peaks are so picturesque. I feel like I'm in the last scene of The Sound of Music when Maria and the Von Trapp family are climbig through the alps.

Dan, Auggie, and I hiked the Highline Trail today. I was amazing and gut-busting at 11.6 miles. And beautiful. For the first half of the hike I was convinced we were hiking through a botanical garden. The snow melt from the top dribbles down and creates these amazing waterfalls. They in turn water the slopes and nourish the TONS of wildflowers. A woman we passed on the trail said it best - you could plant a better garden yourself.

The second half of the trail was down-hill brutailty.

Val, thank you for the comments on Glacier National Park and pictures. It sounds spectacular. We cannot wait for our trip there in September. Love, Uncle John
