On Tuesday we left Stellenbosch for a part of South Africa that we've been wanting to go to for some time now: the Cedarberg. It's only three hours away, but in the summer it gets wicked hot there so we've been holding off on purpose.
We met friends there who had additional family there as well, so we had a nice big group to hang out with--and three teenage/young adult cousins of our friends who loved playing with all the kids. Cha-ching! :)
As we drove to the campground we passed our friends as they headed out for a like. We turned around, joined them, and enjoyed a truly spectacular hike. It was very kid-friendly so Eland and his friend AimeƩ even hiked themselves. Auggie and Maia had no trouble at all. The hike is called "Lot Se Frou" which translates into "Lot's Wife." Take a look at the pictures and take a guess as to why...

Leopard tracks
A white-tip-winged eagle with a crow following it around
The view was stunning from every angle
This rock reminds me of an Egyptian organ sarcophagus
I feel like this photo should be for a motivational poster
Lunch break!
Check out the very defined center crack. The next day we all hiked up that (sans kids) and had an incredible day exploring. Pictures to come eventually.
Teeheehee
Bobbejan ("bo-by-ahn" aka baboon) scull. I feel like if Georgia O'Keeffe was South African she'd paint the Cedarberg landscape with baboon sculls.
Sampling grapes from the local vineyard. Naughty-naughty.
Watermelon post-hike
With AimeƩ :)
