His teacher is pretty much amazing and always has the kids in perfect order, and yet clearly enjoying themselves. Monday is baking day, Tuesday is swim day (Eland and I come, too), Wednesday is recycling and gardening day, Thursday Auggie has playball--which you have to pay extra for (thanks grandparents and GiGi for Christmas money!), and Friday is KDA day. The K stands for Kids and the A is Academy, but I honestly can't remember what the D is for. Ah well. I do know it's lots of fun and somewhat like gym class. Friday is also cake competition day where one kid brings a cake to school and another kid will have his or her name drawn from a hat and then gets to share half of the cake with the class and brings the other half home. Not bad, right?
The negative 0.5% of school has been transport-related. Getting Auggie to school is a breeze, as Dan and Auggie ride bikes there, but getting home is a different sort of challenge. It's kind of a pain for Dan to bring Auggie's bike home, so it stays at school. This means that either he rides it home, or I have to carry it. If I ride my bike with Eland in the trailer, then Auggie typically gets too exhausted on the way home and has a breakdown--even though we're going slow. Twice now I've ended up walking the bike with both boys in the trailer while also carrying Auggie's bike. If I walk with Eland in the backpack, then Auggie rides his bike fairly happily home without a breakdown. The one day that Dan did bring Auggie's bike home, I rode with both boys in the trailer and that was a cinch. Oh, and there's the driving option, but since we don't own the car in our garage, can hardly afford to pay for diesel, and don't want to use it too much, I do my best not to drive. ... So, what can you do? I guess we're still working out these kinks, but the most important thing is that Auggie is loving school.
I don't have more recent pix of Auggie, so here is our first-day-of-school celebratory ice cream at McDonald's:
