I'm so tired, but if I don't post pics now, I'm not sure when I will. Yaaawn...
We went on a fabulous camping trip this weekend, all thanks to our friends who let us borrow their awesome little zip-zip car: a VW Golf! They're on a trip up somewhere north of Johannesburg and left us their car for 9 whole days. If gas wasn't so dang expensive here (btw, I will never complain in America again--ever!) we probably would have put more miles kilometers on, but still, we had a most wonderful weekend.
At first we were considering heading south of Cape Town to the cape peninsula to explore (think Cape of Good Hope), but decided instead to head east to Montagu to camp. Dan had been there before and knew of great places to camp and climb. Best.Decision.Ever. And it turns out that the Argus was going on in Cape Town this weekend. It's some sort of big biking event, meaning that tons of roads would have been closed and all kinds of spectators would be crowding in. Montagu was definitely the place to be.
(I'm writing this on TextEdit while photos upload in Blogger and my goodness, i'm on photo 16/23 and it's taken nearly 10 minutes. ARRRGH! Speedy Internet, where are you? I miss you!! Remember me?? Can we be friends again?……)
I think I can only do Day 1 today…. I'm about to fall asleep. (19/23.. And it took two whole minutes.) I guess I could skip some photos, but then the weekend wouldn't be properly captured. And so I wait…………………… Finally!

| The zip-zip car! Filled to the brim with camping and climbing gear. |
| I missed my carseat! |
| Saturday morning was beautiful with the sunshine and mountains. |
| A several kilometer-long tunnel through the mountains. Auggie was thrilled! |
| Inside the tunnel |
| People are serious when they talk about traffic and construction here. We were stopped for a long time, but we didn't see a single bit of construction being done when we actually passed--not one single backhoe. |
Cool dude.
(Btw, when we bought these sunglasses I tried so hard to steer Auggie towards the cool dude silver ones, but no, he insisted on the cooler dude green ones. He still loves them. Guess I can't get in the way of Auggie's swagger.) |
| Passing here is an interesting exercise in consideration. The car being passed pulls onto the shoulder while the car doing the passing pulls only halfway out into the middle of the road. A car in the opposite direction would have also been expected to get over into the other shoulder. |
| Dan and I complete each other... In climbing. He started this route, and I finished it. Later in the day I started a climb and he finished it. I suppose we should have included this in our wedding vows somehow. |
| Check out the rock! |
| Just scouting it out |
| Climber dude in training |
| There he goes! |
| Actually, he prefers to free solo |
| Love this rock! |
| A turtle--literally crossing the road. |
| A passing glimpse of Montagu. It was a beautiful little wine town. |
| Heh-met! |
| Meep-meep! |
To be continued...
