Yesterday Auggie turned 5 whole months old. I will always be amazed with how he grows. The boy is big! On our bathroom scale he's coming in at 19lbs, but that's approximate.
Here he is going for his celebratory bike ride:
He is getting more and more interactive each day, thriving on every new adventure outside our house. Today we took the bus to meet Dan at my office and Auggie's eyes were open so wide the whole ride there. Everything is new and fascinating as he soaks it all up. We also went out for a walk this evening with Stella and he loved looking around at all the houses and cars, and occasionally craned his head up to see the top of the light poles. Augustin is a sponge!
Auggie's facial expressions are maturing as well. He is quick to smile, and gives it his all every time he does. Auggie's smiles involve his entire mouth opening as wide as possible. I love it. :) He reaches out for everything, and rubs textures that he can't get into his mouth (like the bathroom wall.) Auggie's diaper-changing space is on the vanity right next to our bathroom sinks, so he gets to watch me get ready for work every morning. He is simply captivated every time he sees me wash my face and brush my teeth. I got a toothbrush out of the cabinet for him, so now he gets to hold a toothbrush while I brush. (Kerry, every time we brush together I am reminded of brushing with Aylin when we were in Istanbul!)
Auggie loves grabbing things.. And my hair is one of those things. He really enjoys the texture of it, but also grabs on with a vengeance when he's tired or fussy. (Btw, I no longer wear dangley earrings - far too dangerous.) Did I mention how strong he is? Arms, yes, and legs, too. I wrote previously about how the other little boy from our Bradley class can sit up and how we've been practicing sitting, too. Well, Auggie's not really into sitting any more - he wants to stand. I'll tell him that we're going to sit up and then pull him up by the arms. But instead of cooperating, he stiffens his legs so that instead of sitting he winds up standing. (Smart kid, eh?) And while he needs to work on balance, his beefy legs have no problem holding up his brick-of-a-baby self.
Dan and I have taken Auggie swimming a few times now at the Campus Rec center. He is just the cutest thing in his swimmie (translation: swim diaper.) It's very similar to his other cloth diapers, except that it doesn't have anything for absorption - it's just there to catch the poo. (Although he hasn't tested that yet.) Anyway, it is the cutest stinkin' diaper because it looks like a baby Speedo. So CUTE! And he loves swimming! I think it's been a short enough amount of time since he was in the womb that he knows exactly how to do it. He kicks and flails perfectly. He definitely belongs to both the water-loving L and T sides of the family. I brought my camera last time, here are a few pics:
Auggie's working on talking, too! He practices vowels, consonants, and more! "Heiiiiiiiiiiiii", "Aaaaaaaaaaaaah", "Eehhhhhhhhhhhh", "Behhhhhhhhhhh".. :)
He's just so fun!

Oh I loved 5 months. Such a great stage! Still can't really go anywhere if you lay them down, but smiley and fun. Speaking of swimming babies... have you seen some of these crazy videos?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0mUPr68x2U
Awww :) Next time you go swimming, give me a call! That would be a blast!
Oh my gosh, he's sooo cute! Swimming too, awesome! (Way to go, you're right about the L value of water!) Val, I swear he looks like Dave L. as a baby! I haven't seen the Loh baby pictures in ages, so that's just from memory. I'm sure if I saw pictures today I'd say he looks like you as a baby! :) xoxoxo af
