Eland at Two Months

Eland is an absolute sweetie at 2 months! He is such a delight to have around, and though I do remember life without him, I'd never go back. Our whole family adores this little baby!

With nursing/milk issues behind us, Eland has been very happy and predictable, and his Mama appreciates that predictability when it comes to having two boys as opposed to just one.  I can plan much more easily when it comes to nap and eating times.

Speaking of eating, Eland now nurses on both sides almost every time he nurses during the day. He has a great eat-play-sleep pattern going on. I didn't try to make this happen, although I do appreciate it. Eland simply started this pattern himself. He's a great daytime napper and will go for two hours at a time already–if he's in the swing. I need to wean him off the swing at some point soon. (To all you new mamas out there, Auggie did not nap like this as a baby.) I just hope that he keeps this pattern up and doesn't switch it all up.

Sleeping is still one of Eland's strong suits. He was pretty regular at eating around 9 or 10pm, waking between 1 and 2am, then between 4:30 and 6am, and being up for the day around 6 or 7am. For the last two nights he ate last at 8:30pm, woke at 3:30 or 4am to eat, and then nursed at 6 or 7am. Of course the rule applies that now that I've written about this he's bound to be up every 2 hours tonight, and he still does that about once a week anyway.

Eland can go for about 5 minutes of tummy time before getting so totally upset that I give in and pick him up. I typically put him on the Boppy on the ottoman while I fold laundry next to him on the floor so that we can be eye-to-eye. I think this helps him stay interested. ... I know he needs 20 minutes a day, but I figure 5 at the very least should still be good enough. He'll go longer as he gets older.

Eland loves, loves, loves his play mat! He can lay and play, batting at the toys, for a very long time. He is absolutely intrigued and engaged when I lay him in it. Typically he eats, gets his 5 or so minutes of tummy time, and then when he can't stand it anymore, I put him on the mat to play and he is as happy as can be. It's too cute! He also thinks the bouncy chair and its hangy toys are pretty stellar too.

I started this post on Eland's actual 2-month birthday, and am finishing it up today, 5 days later, and the day he had his 2-month well baby pediatrician appointment. I didn't do it on purpose, but now I have his stats! He's a whopping 14lbs 13oz (the scale keep switching between 14.8 and 15lbs, but finally landed on 14.8), and he's 24.25" long. I'm not big into percentiles, but that puts him at 94th for weight and 84th for height, according to my iPhone's baby app. No wonder he barely fits into Auggie's clothes at this age. Eland is already too tall for any 3-month sleepers, and he's fills out the 3-6 month ones exceptionally well, although we still have little need for the sleepers since it's still very warm in Albuquerque. He's definitely wearing all 3-6 month clothes.

Eland also received two shots today. I probably would have waited longer like I did with Auggie, but the paranoia got to me since we'll be traveling to Pennsylvania this fall for Dan's grandma's 80th birthday celebrations. That means two flights there and three back.. So Eland got DTaP and HIB–and he took them like a champ and barely even cried. After talking it over with his pediatrician, I feel very good about our decision.

Here's my cutie on his 2-month birthday:

Auggie didn't want to miss out on Eland's 2 month photos. :)
They both have the same deer-in-the-headlights stare here. Brothers, clearly. :)
