Memorial Day Weekend

Oh yes, no work on Monday!

We've had a busy few days so far that have included a lot of firsts for Auggie.

The weekend kicked off with Dan's parents coming to Champaign on their way north from a great vacation on their boat. They showed up midday Friday and immediately jumped into grandparent mode. Yippee! That meant Dan came by for lunch at my office sans-baby, and it felt like Old Times. Heh.. Then, (yes, it gets better) we went out to dinner, also sans-baby, and went to see a movie! It was a real bona fide date! We saw the new Star Trek movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. Seriously it was great, and the New York Times agrees. So that's our first "date" post-and-sans-baby. Although it was Auggie's third time being put to bed by not-me.

On Saturday, we all headed south to Lake Shelbyville and spent the day on Dan's parents' boat. It was glorious! We were expecting at least a little bit of rain but it only sprinkled twice and once was while the sun was shining. This was Auggie's first time on a boat and I'm pretty sure he had a blast. He loved watching all of the other boats as well as sucking on the boat's metal window panes. He did a great job exploring the bottom of the boat while we were eating lunch, he napped in the aft cabin down below, and even swam briefly with Daddy. But that involved a lot of screaming and only about 30 seconds of actually being in the water. (The lake water was cold-until-you-go-numb-a-little-but-not-as-bad-as-Lake-Michigan temperature. I later swam and enjoyed it.) That was First No. 2 - swimming in a lake. You should have seen him in his baby-life-preserver. Too cute.

On Sunday we went hiking around Lake Mingo at Kennekuk County Park. It was 7-miles long and the perfect amount of exercise. Stella came along for the hike and nearly passed out on mile 1. We had to hike through a field in the midday hot sun for at least 15 minutes before the trail started and she laid down in the grass as soon as we reached the first patch of shade. Shortly after that we made it to the water and she had a good drink/dip and was stellar for the rest of the hike. After being crated the whole day before while we were on the boat, Stella needed a decent hike. But oh-my-goodness it was HUMID! Full-on Midwest humidity. Yikes!

Auggie was in his SUS for the whole hike and he rocked out like the baby extraordinaire that he is. And in case you were wondering what the heck an SUS is, it's a B.O.B. sport utility stroller (ours is black). Yes. You heard me - a sport utility stroller. My mom saw one in the park one day back when I was pregnant and knew immediately that the T family needed one for their baby. After a little looking around on Craigslist, we found a great deal on the B.O.B. that we have. It's by far the only stroller out there that dudes can be excited about. Dan was showing it off to all our friends before kiddo even arrived. The thing has shock-absorbers, I mean, come on!! So yes, it was brilliant on the trail even up and down 45˚ inclines and over the tree roots growing in the way. You're welcome to stop by our garage sometime to see the mud left on its wheels from yesterday. Dude. I know. It's cool.

Okay, all that embellishment was just a little too fun.. Regardless, we all had a great hike. We were out there for about 3 1/2 hours and Auggie even nursed while I was hiking. That's right, you read it, I nursed Auggie while hiking. As in, at the same time. Le Leche League's got nothin' on this woman. ... And a big old mosquito took a big old bite out of my back while I was nursing him. Blek. (The nursing part was First no.3 - nursing while hiking. We're up to three, everyone.)

And Monday. It's raining. Blah. Dan and I are being nerdballs here having a virtual LAN party while Auggie naps. (Haha, virtual LAN party..) Still, Auggie woke up at nearly 6a.m. which is basically sleeping in for him, and then Dan brought him downstairs so that I could catch a few more winks. Had some crazy dreams. (One of which had our friends' newborn in it, born with a whole set of teeth. Can you guess what Auggie's doing like crazy right now? Teething is creeping into my life everywhere. Another dream had a good friend who happened to be an alchemist and was actually making real gold. But it was creepy and involved a huge cavern that we almost fell in. Oh wacky dreamworld.)

I hope to post pictures from the boat soon.. Donna, please send!!!! :)

Can't wait to see the pictures of Auggie on the boat and in his life-jacket. Wow, he's very strong to be crawling so early. The Lord bless Auggie and his mommy and daddy and doggie!
