Mr. Man is 6 months old!

Auggie cracked me up at nap time today. I put him down and left the door ajar so that I could peep on him for a couple of minutes. He proceeded to preform a full 180˚ and flipped over a few times from his back to his stomach and to his back again before finally falling asleep. He has become completely mobile and it seems like this transformation happened overnight. Just last week we could put him down on the floor and know that he'd stay within a 3-foot radius. Now, that is not so! Especially with our wood floors he can slide anywhere, not to mention get anything into his mouth, too. He's particularly keen on chair legs these days. ... What a little bear cub (haha) he is!

Another crib story: Yesterday evening when I came home from work Auggie had been down for a nap for about 45 minutes. Well, he was awake again, and he started doing his 'Ahhhhh ahhhh' thing when I got in the door. Dan and I chatted for a few moments, I went into the kitchen to wash my hands (you never know what germs may be lurking on the bus), and Auggie got louder and louder. All of the sudden he started screaming. Dan and I didn't exactly pick up the pace since we know what a little drama-boy he can be. After another minute I made my way upstairs to find that my little screamer had thrust his leg below the crib bumper and through the crib rails. His chunky-monkey thigh was stuck in the crib - hence the screaming. Poor guy! I had no idea this was even possible! (Not that it was the first time he's ever surprised me.. ;) I called Dan up and we quickly rescued the Little Man.

We also decided it was time to lower the mattress height because who knows what Auggie is going to come up with next. At Auggie's 4-month visit his pediatrician said that no matter what, at 6 months the crib bumper comes out. I suppose we'll do it, but now that I know he can get limbs stuck in the rails I'm a little hesitant. Oh well... Even though the Little Man is 6 months old today his well-baby visit isn't until next Wednesday. Maybe we'll discuss then.

Auggie also LOVES grabbing my hair. And it drives me NUTS!!! I find myself telling him, "No!" in the same way that I tell Stella, "No!" Sheesh. I know he's not a dog, but it drives me NUTS!!!!! With lots of exclamation points!!!!!!! In fact, I think it'd be easier to teach him not to grab and pull my hair if he was a dog. (And no, putting it up in a pony-tail doesn't help. Arrgh!) Do they have human hair baby toys out there? Actually that sounds kind of disgusting. But yeah, this is one habit I'm not very fond of. ... Thinking about it a little more, it's not that I don't like him touching my hair, it's that when my day is full of carrying, nursing, and, well, touching, this extra touching is enough to tip the scale towards overwhelming.

Touching is something that Auggie relishes. His manual dexterity is fantastic. He can grasp, grab, hold, bring to his mouth, push, stroke, examine, and rub. I am constantly impressed with his physical abilities.

He also likes reading, being outside, riding the bus (!!), and dogs! Auggie LOVES dogs! Of course he loves Stella, but he recognizes other four-legged varieties and adores them. Two Saturdays ago I took Auggie to the University's Vet Med Open House to see a friend's greyhound. Auggie, at perfect dog-height in his umbrella stroller, squealed with delight when Zephyr the greyhound stuck his nose in Auggie's face. Big smiles all around! I took Auggie to Stella's dog class tonight (our first time back in over 6 months - wink::wink) thinking we'd be lucky to make it half-way through. Instead, we made stayed for the whole hour. Auggie was totally content watching the other dogs from my Moby wrap. Not bad!

Auggie has a new doggie of his own! His name is Bo, after the new First Dog. Bo came in the mail today, right on time for Auggie's 6 month birthday, and was skillfully made by Auggie's Great Aunt Diane. What a stinkin' cool doggie! Here they are:

The Sickness

I came down with a cold on Monday. It completely caught me by surprise. My nose was a leaky faucet. Blek! Now that I'm finally starting to get over it, Dan is feeling something coming on. Poor guy. Auggie has a pretty good deal regarding family colds right now. Since he's nursing he's getting all of my antibodies which means that he's not getting sick. Well, that or I'm incredible at hand washing and keeping him clean. But I'm guessing that it's really the antibodies that are keeping him healthy. Once again I'm amazed at how God really thought of everything when He made us.

Wow, 6 months old already! How how amazing that Auggie is so mobile! And how about that crib event. Oh my - I thought those rails were too close together for that. : ) What a darling doggie Aunt Diane made! Auggie sure is active - guess you knew that when he was still in the incubator with all his kicking. : ) We love Auggie!
